Current System: Public Safety
There is a lack of accountability in public safety
- Failure of state leadership has led to low morale of state corrections officers and poor policies to monitor and track dangerous sex offenders
- There are almost 1,500 sex offenders who have failed to register and no means to locate them
- Repeat DUI offenders are not held accountable.
- Gang-related crimes and violence must be addressed
- Washington ranks 9th in the nation in identity theft
- Majority party solutions focus on benefits and assistance for felons, not victims of crime
Our public safety system is not designed to help victims - it's
set up to help felons
21st Century Vision: Community safety that puts families first
- Families before felons
- GPS tracking for the most dangerous sex offenders
- Harsher punishment for failing to register
- Felony DUI conviction after three DUIs
- Protection from gangs
21st Century Solutions: Delivering real changes and real protections
- Require level 3 sex offenders, those who fail to register or register as homeless to be placed on electronic monitoring (GPS)
- Allow our community corrections officers to conduct face-to-face, random inspections of dangerous sex offenders' homes
- Require convicted DUI offenders to submit a urinalysis each time he/she visits a treatment provider
- Create a DNA database for all felons convicted of a violent crime, including sex offenses
- Require sex offenders to register their Internet and e-mail addresses
