From the towering mountains
to the flowing streams, Doug Ericksen understands what
is special about our home. The people here are connected
to the land in a unique way, surrounded by an ever changing
world. As our communities change and grow, we must be ever
careful to protect the quality of life that we love so much
about our area. Quality of life is an issue that encompasses
many aspects and means many things to many people. Doug Ericksen
knows that for the people of Whatcom County quality of life
includes a solid job base and economic foundation, strong
public and private schools, readily accessible and abundant
outdoor recreational opportunities, and the rural character
of our area.

| "Agriculture
is at the heart of what defines Whatcom County. If we
lose ag we will become just another place." |
| Rep.
Doug Ericksen |
The challenges of our
area are great. Growth pressures are pushing in on our farm lands.
Government rules, taxes, and market prices are making it tougher
and tougher to earn a living farming. Our timber communities are
suffering from well intentioned legislation that does little to
protect salmon but does great damage to small timber land owners.
The losses of well paying jobs at many of our major employers have
left many families in a time of uncertainty.
HOPE, GROWTH, and OPPORTUNITY
The American dream
that any person can attain any level in our society is what
sets our nation apart from the rest of the world. While some
believe that the best times for our nation are behind us. Doug
Ericksen is full of the spirit of Hope, Growth, and Opportunity
that we as a community and a nation need.
Doug Ericksen knows that with the right leadership in elected
office, the best times for our community are still to come.
By limiting the growth of government, controlling taxes, reforming
our regulatory system, and unleashing the creative spirit of
our private sector we can put Washington back to work and regain
the trust of the citizens of our state. |

| "I
am running for re-election because I want my two daughters
to live in an even better Washington than the one I grew
up in. Better jobs, better schools, and a cleaner environment
are within our reach with strong leadership." |
